Dussehra in Mysore is celebrated as a 10-days festival from 2nd October 2016 to 11th October 2016, it is also called as the state festival of Karnataka or “Nadahabba”, Dussehra festival is celebrated with at most joy and spectacle in Mysore city, Dussehra is a festival celebrating victory of God over Evil. Dussehra is a 10 days festival ending on Vijayadashami or 10th day. Vijayadashami is also called as the day of victory of the king be it a day to day governance or battle, The 10 days of celebration starting after 6 days, where 6th day is celebrated in the honor of goddess saraswathi, 8th day is dedicated to god Durga, 9th day is dedicated for lord Lakshmi, goddess of wealth on 10th day grand Mysore Dussehra procession will be held which starts from Mysore palace and ends in Bannimantap.


In Mysore celebrations of Dussehra festival is steered by the Royal family of Mysore who performs the special Pooja on the occasion of Dussehra, During Dussehra entire Mysore city is decorated and well illuminated. The palace and important building in Mysore are illuminated by lights around 25000 lights will be in Mysore palace on the occasion of Dussehra and twelve Elephants will be under gone special training in the jumbo Savari route between Mysore palace and Bannimantap twice a day
The schedule of Mysore Dussehra is as follows
Mysore Dussehra starts from 2nd October 2016 and ends on 11th October 2016
On 2nd October, Dussehra Inauguration will be held in Mysore palace
On 3rd October to 9th October, Different cultural programs will be held in Mysore palace
On 10th October Ayudha Pooja will be held in Mysore palace
On 11th October is the last day of Dussehra, the Dussehra procession Jamboo Savari is the main attraction of Dussehra festival in which idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari is placed on golden mantapa on top of an elephant, the procession starts from Mysore palace and ends in a place called as the Bannimantap where the banni tree is worshiped, after the Jamboo Savari Torch light parade will be held in Bannimantap grounds where Maharaja make an entry on horse to the parade ground to receive salute by his military units.
